Why exercise is important




My dear Proverbs 31 woman in Progress,

When I read anything about the Proverbs 31 woman, I realized that she was a strong woman, both physically and spiritually. That’s why I decided to write some posts about health, so that we can be encouraged to stay fit to serve the Lord.

Remember, our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and we should glorify God in our bodies, as well as in our spirits (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

I have identified six reasons of the importance of physical exercise in our lives:

  • Exercise helps our brains to function properly, and improves our mental agility
  • Our self-esteem will increase and we’ll fortify our self-discipline – you can read my article about self-discipline here
  • We’ll be more relaxed and less tired, physically and morally
  • We’ll be more balanced as holistic individuals
  • We’ll develop a winner’s mentality
  • We’ll be brave and fearless, like soldiers

See, everybody knows the necessity to exercise. The real problem for us is that it means we have to change our routines and habits to include exercise in our lives. That’s why exercising can be challenging for many of us.

We don’t need to exercise as high-level athletes, though. Moderate but regular exercise is perfect for us: walking, swimming… We just have to find the courage to do it and decide to incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise in our schedules, as hectic as they can be.

I pray God that my post will encourage all of us to develop discipline and to start glorifying God in our bodies with exercise!

    The magnificent woman of virtue mentioned in proverbs. This is a nice take that you have contributed on this post. Your message goes beyond gender and is correct. I find it amazing how easy bad habits are to form, create, and implement without hesitation. The crazy thing is we all want to be healthier and feel better yet there is the gap between talking about it and actually being about it. I like this post because not only does it create awareness but you include a much deeper message that includes a spiritual side. It is important for us to seek health in our minds, body, and soul.     Thank you for this gentle encouragement to exercise – it was just what I needed today. There are so many benefits to exercise; mental, physical and spiritual. The hardest part is getting started, but once you begin, it’s always worth the effort. My favourite exercise is simple walking. I go outside withe the dogs when the weather allows, or on the treadmill when it doesn’t.

    What a wonderful reminder for me to start exercising again! You’re right, we know the benefits but it’s just a matter of making the decision to change our habits.

    I have an exercise bike that I haven’t used for a very long time. Your article has given me a “gentle push” to get on that bike and start making it a priority in my daily routine!

    You’re so on point! Exercise is an important component of our life, especially when it comes to reflecting God in ALL aspects of our lives. He gave us one body, the Holy Spirit’s temple, and we must preserve it from any harm. People think this harm comes from the outside, from the enemy, but the harm can also be what you put into your body and how you treat it. Eating junk food all the time will not allow your body to be used for communication with the Holy Ghost. Or not exercising and always feeling sluggish isn’t conducive to a healthy temple.

    I feel we often forget that, and it’s a great reminder you gave us through this post! Thank you so much
