What We Can Pray For In 2020

Pray without ceasing

1 Thessalonians 5:17

My dear fellow Proverbs 31 women in progress,

I hope you’ve been well since my last post and that you’ve been flourishing in the fait of our Lord.

Today, I’ll talk about the prayer topics we can address in 2020. What can we pray for in 2020 as Christian women? What are the important issues we need to pray for this year?

Personally, I found that we can pray for the following topics in 2020:

  • the unity of Christians
  • the persecuted Christians all around the world
  • our leaders and prominent men in society
  • our nations
  • the protection of our families
  • our sanctification
  • our purpose

Please forgive me in advance if my post is more serious than usual. But the Holy Spirit pushed me to write this article for a reason.

Pray for the unity of Christians

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Psalms 133:1

As Christians, we should pray for the unity of all who profess to believe in Jesus as a whole. Let’s pray that we would go back to His original teachings and come together as one.

Let’s pray we should let aside all the human traditions that hinder His message and start all over to follow Jesus and His teachings in spirit and in Truth, as He wants for all of His disciples.

Also, let’s give up all the pride that puts obstacles for a proper conversation between Christians. If we have some issue to address to other Christians, whether individually or collectively, let’s do it with a spirit of love, not with a spirit of contention and argument.

Pray for the persecuted Christians all around the world

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

2 Timothy 3:12

Persecution was already an issue during the days of the Apostles. But even nowadays, where knowledge has increased greatly, we always have Christians who are persecuted in many countries.

In some countries, people still see Christianity as a threat. We should pray the Lord that He should strengthen the faith of our fellow brothers and sisters all around the world, despite the obstacles, the sufferings and the humiliations.

Let’s pray the Lord that He will soften the hearts of authorities so that those who are in jail for their Christian faith shall be released.

For we don’t run for a corruptible and temporary prize, but for an incorruptible crown that will last forever.

Pray for our leaders

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for Kings and all in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

1 Timothy 2:1-2

As we have seen civil unrest and people fighting for their diminishing rights all around the world, let’s pray for our leaders. Let’s pray the Lord that our leaders would lead their people with fairness and justice; and rule in such a way that our Christian values will not be harmed.

Let’s pray the Lord that our leaders will take the needs of their people into account and work actively for the prosperity of their countries. Let’s pray the Lord that they will have compassion for the poor and the needy.

As King Lemuel’s mother stated in Proverbs 31, a proper leader should:

Open your mouth for the speechless,

In the cause of all who are appointed to die.

Open your mouth, judge righteously,

And plead the cause of the poor and the needy.

Proverbs 31:8-9

Pray for our nations

Also, seek the peace and the prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because it prospers, you will also prosper.

Jeremiah 29:7

This is a continuity with the prayer for our leaders. You saw in the Bible verse above that Jeremiah wrote to the Jews in exile to pray for Babylon because they would prosper there if the city prosper.

In the same manner, we should pray for the prosperity of our nations at every level: spiritual, economic, political… so that we shall also be successful at every level. If you never prayed for the prosperity of your country, start today.

Pray for the protection of our families

Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a milestone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Matthew 18:5-6

These past years, we all saw that family is under attack of the devil, especially children. We all saw all these scandals involving child abuse at every level. I don’t want to go into further details because hearing and/or thinking about child abuse just makes me sick.

For these reasons, we should pray fervently for the safeguard of our families, and especially for the protection of our children all around the world, especially in developing countries.

Let’s pray that evil rings that exploit our children will be destroyed. Let’s pray that abused children will be delivered and set free. Let’s pray that all the evil people who profit from the destruction of our children will seek help and/or receive proper punishment, according to His will.

Childhood is a sacred period in life, where you should remain innocent and learn everything you need to succeed in life. There should be no place for abused children anywhere.

Pray for our sanctification

He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.

Revelation 22:11

Times are dangerous and the return of our Lord is near. Though we don’t know the date and hour of His return, we should be prepared. The Lord doesn’t want us to die, but He wants everyone to repent and come back to Him.

That’s why we should pray to be sanctified and keep a holy behaviour in our spirit, soul and body. Set your eyes on Jesus and keep the commandments of the Lord and the testimony of Jesus. You’ll be rewarded beyond your imagination.

Pray for your purpose

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 6-7

Finally, pray for yourself and for your life. If you don’t know your purpose in life, ask the Lord to show how you can serve Him. Pray for your needs and your projects.

Don’t be angry if you don’t see results overnight. It just means that the Lord is working in you in a very special way. Also, never forget that the Lord blesses us at the appropriate time.

So don’t worry and just walk with the Lord like many faith heroes did. I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

Well, that’s all for today! What do you want to pray for in 2020? What are your prayer intentions? Don’t hesitate to share them in the comments section below!

And as usual, stay blessed!

Hello Angelce. It’s Sunday morning over here, midnight exactly and I am having a great time reading through this post sharing what we can pray for in 2020. I must testify that these prayer requests are exactly what we need in these present times. Our nation, family, children, brethren and ourselves need divine settlement and God’s blessings. My major prayer for this year is to grow business wise so I can do what God has layer in my heart for years now. I need money to kick off.

    I celebrate you!

In a broader sense, I think these 7 prayer points covers virtually every areas of our lives. As Christians, we are intercessors and as intercessors, we must take up the responsibility to talk to our heavenly father always on behalf of the people we hold dear. Now, more than ever, we have to stay united and that is something we must present before God. Also, those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness. We must not forget to commit our leaders into God’s hands. let us do this as he spirit leads. God bless you.

When should we Pray? Everywhere and anytime. Unity is the key to success in any endeavor. I’d like adding to your list to pray for humility and the salvation of our souls. Please never forget also asking for the Lord’s people (Israel) as we are requested to do so in a portion of the Holy Word of god. Do you remember the exact location of this request within the bible?

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful post with us. God bless you!

          • angelce says:

God bless you too ! There are several verses that ask us to pray for Israel but the one I can think of is the following : « Pray for the peace of Jerusalem : may they prosper who love you. Peace within your walls, prosperity within your palaces » Psalms 122:6.

            Hope that it helps.

I beleive seeking God in prayer is the one way to get close to Christ. I too am passionate about him and believe prayer is very important. It is the only way one will receive answers as well as having patience. These things you mention are basics of which we should pray for but unfortunately don’t.

            • angelce says:

              I agree with you !

            • Kozakiv says:

Jesus Christ came among men to reconcile them to God and to bring to the world the message of God’s love. By his death on the cross, God broke the power of evil. Belief in the resurrection of Jesus means that his death is not considered a failure, but only the beginning. It has brought good to everyone who believes in it since it has been resurrected, a hope and a new life that transcends human boundaries. Jesus is given another name, Christ, because in Greek Christos means “anointed, savior” Thanks for the post.
