My Book review – No More Sheets

Hello, my dear brethren!

Today, I will review a book that I read last month (yes, I planned to read a certain number of books per month, even if I don’t respect my schedule all the time). This book is called No more sheets and was written by Dr. Juanita Bynum.

Name: No more sheets: Starting Over

Author: Juanita Bynum

Price: EUR 7.99 (Kindle edition), otherwise between EUR 13 and EUR 21

Where to buy: Amazon

My overall rating: 4/5

Who is Juanita Bynum?

Juanita Bynum is an American pentecostal televangelist, author, Christian entrepreneur and gospel singer. She preaches at many Christian revivals sessions on different Christian topics, but especially on women’s topics like marriage (which she carried out with her former husband, Thomas Weeks III) or Proverbs 31 woman. She became widely recognized by the public with her sermon called “No more sheets” in 1996. She made it at a singles’ conference organized by T.D. Jakes (you can check this sermon on YouTube if you are interested in watching it).

“No more sheets” is basically a book about how Christian single women should live their lives ad also about her own life experience which was quite sinful before she came back to Christ. She talks about her past promiscuity, her relationship with her first husband (that she later divorced), her multiple failures on relationships with men, her depression, and her recovery and victory in Christ. The book is a kind of transcription of her sermon of 1996 she reedited to get it up to date.

What I liked in this book

  • Juanita Bynum is sincere in the book and doesn’t want to impress anyone; you can feel that she lived every single word of this book
  • She addresses topics that are not often talked about in Church, i.e. sex in general, and their spiritual consequences
  • She advocates women’s empowerment through God’s Word (I checked, and nothing is about feminism in her book)
  • There is a whole chapter on Proverbs 31 woman in the book, where she basically described how single women should stand and how they should try be made whole by God before getting a husband (this chapter is my favorite in the book!)

What I disliked in the book

Nothing!!! However, I can understand that Juanita Bynum is under the fire of criticism because according to many watchful Christians on the Internet, she is preaching the gospel of prosperity. Well, I don’t know her very well, but I can assure you that you won’t find nothing of the sort in this book. Her book is rather linked to traditional Christian concepts and I haven’t found heretic teachings in it (and God knows how much I care about  heresy…)

My recommendation

I would definitely recommend this book for single women, young girls and also to older women who want to advice younger women but don’t know where to start. I can assure you that this is a life-changing book for every single woman who waits on the Lord!

Have you read this book already? Please share your point of view!

Stay blessed!

Good review of the book. It looks like you hit on a couple of things that would be helpful to other people who might be seeking an opinion of the book. You gave them plenty of information and pointed them in the right direction on where they could go buy it if they haven’t yet.

Only last night I was thinking we need some sites that review books.
Your description and the way you set out the page is really good. You give all the information we need to make our decision, without making us read half the novel first.
      Keep up the good work.

Hi! I like your review of this book and I believe it could be one of life changing writings. What I think would impress me even more is if you could find some strong quotes from the book and if you could share some of your insights. That would be awesome!
