Go the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,
Which, having no captain,
Overseer or ruler,
Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6: 6-8
My dear fellow Proverbs 31 women in progress,
As I was meditating on the verse above, I was suddenly marveled on how the Bible uses things of the nature to teach us. Therefore, as Solomon tells us to consider the ant’s ways to become wiser, I started to study its behavior. I am therefore sharing my thoughts with you!
A lesson of discipline
It is said that the ant provides her supplies in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. I couldn’t help but think about the fable of the grasshopper and the ant written by Jean de La Fontaine – do you know it? The grasshopper was irresponsible and sang the whole summer without working to gather some provisions for bad times; which the ant did. Let us plan our lives – according to God’s will of course – and apply our plans faithfully in our lives. We should plan ahead, so that we’ll be able to laugh of the future like the Proverbs 31 woman.
If we are disciplined enough to follow our plans instead of daydreaming, results will follow in every area of our lives, whether it’s financial, physical, spiritual, etc.
A lesson of independance
The ant does not need anyone to tell her what she has to do because she knows her role in her colony. We must also take our own destiny into our hands and take our responsibilities. Let us stop blaming others – the government, our family, our husband… Above all, trust God. And don’t expect anyone to do what you can do for yourself.
A lesson of courage
Have you seen the ant when she faces an obstacle? She will fight and never give up. When we face obstacles, we tend to be discouraged but the ant teaches us the contrary.
When we see obstacles, we must find a way to deal with it. Did you have failures in your lives? Well, it happens. But it’s not the end of the world. Gain some wisdom from your mistakes and move on.
A lesson of hard work
Have you noticed that the ant, though a small animal, could take heavy stuff on her back? How wonderful! There is no place for laziness in the ant’s behaviour. We must roll our sleeves up and start working for the Lord!
That’s all for today! Do you see other lessons given by the ant? Please share your point of view!
